If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry family member to your household, PACC911 is hosting its annual pet adopt-a-thon event in Anthem Community Park.
At least 20 Valley rescue organizations will be bringing dogs, cats and other adoptable critters for a chance at finding their forever home.
In years past, the annual event typically resulted in close to 100 pets being placed with new owners, said Bari Mears, PACC911 founder, but this year’s event will be smaller to respect the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Mears said at the beginning of the pandemic her organization saw an uptick in the number of adoptions, but unemployment has led to an increase in the number of pets that have been surrendered and are now in need of new homes.
“With the large area we have to hold this event, and the social distancing and all precautions carefully in place, we hope the community will feel comfortable and support this event, offering homes to the many animals in need,” Mears said.
All pets up for adoption are spayed, neutered and vaccinated.
The event is family friendly and attendees are welcome to bring their other dogs along to enjoy a lure course as part of a fundraiser and to meet and greet their potential new addition to the family. A food vendor will also be on site.
Donations of sealed pet food bags and cans are welcome. Masks will be required.
