NVCA Hosts Virtual Meeting for Neighbors on Proposed Parking Lot

By Valley Vibe Staff writers—

North Valley Christian Academy is hosting a virtual meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 22) for neighbors to weigh in on the school’s proposal for a second parking lot on the northeast corner of 27th Drive and Westland Road.

The private school is requesting zoning approval from the City of Phoenix to put in a parking lot with 136 spaces on the 4.5 acres of land it owns north of its campus split by Westland Road.

The proposal was discussed at length at the North Gateway Village Board meeting on Nov. 10. Several residents voiced concerns of parents parking on Westland Road and difficulty making turns in and out of Westland Road, due to the traffic flow during drop off and pick up times. A total of 22 letters of opposition were received by the City of Phoenix from concerned neighbors who live in the neighborhoods off Westland Road.

The North Gateway Board agreed to postpone their decision on the proposal in order to collect updated information from the City regarding the intent and timeline for a proposed traffic light at 27th Drive and Westland Road to be funded in part by the school, and the remainder by the city.
