Get Up to $225 back in City of Phoenix water rebates.
If you’ve been waiting for a reason to swap out your old toilet fixtures or upgrade to a smart irrigation controller―the City of Phoenix is now paying single-family homeowners who receive city services to make the switch to more water-efficient models.
Keeping water preservation top of mind, the City launched a new rebate program to incentivize its residential customers into conserving water both inside and outside their homes. Each household can earn up to $225 in rebates toward the purchase and proof of installation of qualifying fixtures.
In addition to the reimbursement, the city says residents can expect substantial savings on their water bills. Each new toilet and irrigation controller carries an estimated savings of approximately 10,000 gallons per year.
City of Phoenix Water Rebate #1: WaterSense-Labeled Smart Irrigation Controllers
An average of 70 percent of water use comes from outdoor use, according to the Arizona Department of Water Resources. To encourage more efficient outdoor water use, the city is offering up to a $75 in reimbursement directly to single-family residential customers for the purchase and installation of an EPA WaterSense-labeled smart irrigation controller. Reimbursements will be issued in the form of a check mailed directly to each customer who qualifies.
According to the EPA, WaterSense-labeled irrigation controllers can make a big difference in water use over clock-based controllers when it comes to watering schedules for landscapes. New, smarter technology can sense sufficient moisture and override scheduled irrigation so water is not wasted on plants that don’t need water. Weather-based irrigation controllers tailor watering times based on local weather and landscape conditions so that plants get water that is needed when it is needed.
City of Phoenix Water Rebate #2: WaterSense-Labeled Toilet
Inside the home, toilets are the main source of water use according to the EPA, accounting for nearly 30 percent of an average home’s indoor water consumption.
New advancements in water efficiency have allowed toilets to use 1.28 gallons per flush or less while still providing the same or better performance. This is 20 percent less water than the current federal standard of 1.6 gallons per flush. By replacing toilet fixtures with WaterSense-labeled models, the average family can reduce water used for toilets by 20 to 60 percent.
City residents can receive up to $75 for the purchase and installation of a new EPA WaterSense-labeled toilet of 1.28 Gallons Per Flush (GPF) or less.
Rebates are limited to two toilets per premise, and one smart irrigation controller per premise within 10 years. Incentives for toilets and smart irrigation controllers can be combined.
