After being closed for nearly five months for construction, the grand opening of Anthem’s larger and newly designed skate park is set for Saturday with a celebration planned.
The improved park incorporates the underused hockey rink area into a new design with the existing skate park to accommodate the growing volume of users, according to the Anthem Community Council. The expanded park, at almost 40,000 square feet, will allow all-wheel users, including skateboards, scooters, bikes, roller skates and in-line skates.
Saturday’s festivities include a live DJ, BMX stunt team, competitions, food trucks, giveaways and a celebratory fireworks show. Anthem residents and families are welcome to bring their non-motorized wheels to try out the park for themselves.
“Attendees will get a cool opportunity to see the Superhero Stunt Team preform on our new skate park. This
bicycle thrill trick show is a must-see for our families,” said ACC Special Events Manager Debbie Pulido.
The $1.3-million project was funded by the community’s enhancement fund. The project was approved during the Facilities Master Plan process in May 2017.
The event will wrap up with a celebratory fireworks show at 6:45 p.m.
