BCHS Principal
Boulder Creek High School begins the new school year with a new principal. Jeremy Hendrix, former assistant principal and athletic director at Mountain Ridge High School, has been with Deer Valley Unified School District for six years and brings over 20 years of teaching and administrative experience to Boulder Creek.
Former BCHS principal, Brittany Sutton, has moved into a new role as director of communications for DVUSD.
Valley Vibe asked Hendrix to share more about himself to the community.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
JH
JH: I come from a family of educators. My grandmother served as the director of professional development in Michigan, and both of my parents dedicated more than 30 years to teaching. Ironically, my original goal was to avoid a career in education altogether. I pursued a degree in communications because I was drawn to the variety of opportunities the field offered. Yet, no matter what role I found myself in, I always seemed to be teaching, coaching, mentoring, or helping others learn.
Eventually, I decided to substitute teach for a day, simply to see what it was like. I had an absolute blast. That one day confirmed what had been quietly calling me all along, and I’ve been in education ever since.
Outside of school, I’m blessed to be married to my wonderful wife, and together we’re raising our two children. Family is at the center of everything I do, and I strive to stay grounded in my faith as I lead and serve others. Those values—relationships, service, integrity, and putting people first—guide me both personally and professionally, and I am grateful for the opportunity to bring them to the Boulder Creek High School community.
What are you most excited about in your new role as principal of Boulder Creek?
JH: I am excited to partner with our students, staff, families, and the Boulder Creek community as we help every student grow, discover their potential, and accomplish things they once believed were only dreams. There is nothing more rewarding than watching students develop the confidence, character, and skills to achieve goals they never thought possible. I look forward to celebrating those successes together and continuing to build a school community where every Jaguar feels supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their fullest potential.
Could you share your leadership style and how you make yourself approachable to students and ensure their voices are heard?
JH: I am a servant leader and firmly believe that my role is to empower others by putting people in positions where they can flourish and do their best work. One of my favorite quotes from Simon Sinek is, “The joy of leadership comes from seeing others achieve more than they thought they were capable of.” That quote perfectly captures why I chose educational leadership. My goal each day when I arrive at work is to inspire others to pursue excellence, support their growth, and serve our entire school community with integrity and purpose.
I also recognize that no principal has all the answers. If I am going to be successful as principal of Boulder Creek High School, I must listen to and learn from all of our stakeholders—students, staff, families, and community members. Each brings valuable perspectives and expertise that strengthen our school. By working together, building meaningful relationships, and keeping students at the center of every decision, I am confident that Boulder Creek High School will continue to grow into a school where every student is challenged, supported, and empowered to achieve more than they ever imagined possible.”
What are some fun facts about you?
JH: I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and cheering on the Michigan Wolverines. I played college baseball, and before becoming a teacher, I was a PGA apprentice, where I had the opportunity to teach golf lessons.
A fun fact about me is that I’ve always been fascinated by sharks. My favorite is the Oceanic Whitetip, a remarkable species known for its confidence, resilience, and ability to thrive in the open ocean.
