The wait for a smoother ride along Carefree Highway will soon be over.
Approximately 3 miles of pavement resurfacing between I-17 and 7th Avenue, is scheduled to take place in April barring any unforeseen circumstances or weather delays, said Phoenix Transportation Department spokesperson Ashley Patton. The top layer of asphalt will be removed from the roadway to accommodate a whole new layer, necessary when an asphalt surface has reached the end of its service life.
The project is part of the city’s accelerated pavement maintenance program, which includes repaving more than 250 major-street miles along some of the city’s most deteriorated roads.
Signage alerting motorists to roadwork dates prior to the start of the work will be present. Lane restrictions are expected during paving.
