Emergency Care & Behavioral Health: County Wants New 200-Bed Hospital
Maricopa County is asking voters to support public health by approving Prop 409, a $898-million general obligation bond issue to expand its services at Valleywise Health Medical Center.
If approved, Prop 409 would fund expansions to pediatric and primary care, along with emergency services, including a new 200-bed behavioral health hospital and a new outpatient specialty center. Funding would also expand community health centers to enhance physician training and support underserved neighborhoods.
Tax increase
A “yes” vote would allow for a property tax increase of 11 cents per $100 of net assessed limited property value, or roughly $55 annually.
New West-MEC Campuses & Program Expansions
The Western Maricopa Education Center seeks to secure funding for new campuses, facility upgrades, and program expansions to meet growing workforce demands.
A “yes” vote on Prop 403 would allow West-MEC to issue and sell $415 million of school improvement bonds, with no expected increase to the current tax rate.
A “yes” vote on Prop 406 would authorize the sale, lease or exchange of district-owned properties and investment of the proceeds into educational improvements. Funding from the bonds would expand access to career technical education programs and double
West-MEC’s student capacity in high-demand trade fields, such as healthcare, welding, technology and other skilled trades.
